Welcome to the Historic Archaeological Research (HAR) web site. HAR was formed in 1993 as a company providing specialized technical support to cultural resource management firms, civil engineering and environmental companies, academic institutions and other entities engaged in or requiring archaeological services. HAR may be employed to assist in all phases of research and archaeological investigation including state and or federally regulated compliance projects.
The company has directed or cooperated on projects in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Missouri and Wisconsin. From the onset, HAR has endeavored to provide our employers and clientele cost effective and competent technical services with the completion of projects on time, and within budget constraints foremost in mind.
Over the last twenty-five years, HAR has been involved in projects requiring expertise in systematic metal artifact detection, precision survey, site mapping, and analysis of historical period archaeological sites including 18th and 19th century battlefields, military encampments, pioneer homesteads, cemeteries and Native American villages.
Proficiency with state-of-the-art technologies including Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), precision Global Positioning System (GPS) and electronic total station survey equipment has allowed HAR to design and empirically refine noninvasive geophysical investigation techniques and to accurately document hundreds of poorly defined or damaged pioneer cemeteries.
In addition to providing precision survey, mapping and subsurface imaging of both historic and prehistoric archaeological sites, electronic reconnaissance in environmental applications and the delineation of underground storage tanks, extinct utilities and other buried features have also been undertaken.
